Marcia van Dijk
Marcia woont in Leiden. Naast haar carrière als jurist herontdekte zij haar creatieve talent, dat door haar werk op de achtergrond was geraakt. Haar werk is esthetisch en legt de nadruk op helderheid van kleuren. Zij is gefascineerd door rechte lijnen en geometrische figuren. Zij vindt haar inspiratie in de vroege (abstracte) schilders van de 20-ste eeuw: Mondriaan, El Lissitzky, Kandinsky, Klee, Malevich. Haar composities creëert zij intuïtief. Het spel van vormen is belangrijk bij het zoeken naar een harmonieus geheel. In haar werk brengt Marcia de drie-dimensionale wereld terug naar het twee-dimensionale. Zij beschouwt zichzelf als vertegenwoordiger van de stroming van de “reductive art”, een kunstvorm waarin wordt gewerkt met een beperkt kleurenpalet en (telkens terugkerende) grafische vormen.
In haar artist’s statement zegt Marcia van Dijk het volgende:
‘Naar mijn gevoel is een figuratief thema in de kunst niet noodzakelijk. In mijn werk vormen vrij zwevende geometrische vormen, kleuren en lijnen het beeld. Het voornaamste thema van mijn werk is de spanning tussen lijnen, kleur en vorm. Ik probeer naast de reële wereld een nieuwe kunstwereld te plaatsen, die net zo levend is als die reële wereld.’

Marcia van Dijk lives and works in Leiden NL. Beside her career in law she rediscovered her passion for creating art that had long been dormant. Her work is aesthetic and emphasizes brightness of colours. Straight lines and geometrical figures fascinate her. She finds her inspiration in the early abstract painters of the 20th century: Mondriaan, El Lissitzky, Kandinsky, Klee, Malevich. Her compositions are created intuitively. The interplay of forms is important in the search for an harmonious image. In her work Marcia brings the three-dimensional world back to the two-dimensional. She considers herself a representative of the “reductive art” movement, in which the artist uses a limited colour palette and creates recurring graphic forms.
’In her artist’s statement Marcia says the following:
‘In my view figurative themes are not essential. In my work free floating geometric forms, colours and lines form the image. The main theme of my work is the tension between lines, colour and form. I try to create a new art world which is parallel to the real world, but just as much alive.’
