KARIN BEYENS, born in Aba,(Congo), lives and works in Merksplas, Belgium.
After my Master's degree in Higher Art Education in Free Printmaking and Drawing in ST. Lukas in Brussels, I further delved into the techniques of intaglio, letterpress and flat printing. The technique with which I could express myself best became the dry needle technique. I do not use classic zinc or copper as a printing form, but intensive use is made of Mylar polyester (foil). Ultimately, graphic art did not become a goal, but rather a means to gain different insights.
During my classical training I was triggered by the lessons about the Russian avand-garde, the Bauhaus and the Style.
Through the techniques of drypoint etching and collage, my work has evolved towards geometric abstraction in recent years. The basic material I work with is Mylar polyester (foil). My recent work consists of reduced, monochrome painted lines and surfaces. These are applied to the transparent and reflective polyester (foil) with broad brushstrokes in acrylic paint, with only the power of the colored line or area predominating. Basic principles such as shape, color, texture and material are examined using a formalistic method.
With the idea of “anti-form” and the manipulation of the material through the process of drypoint technique, painting, stacking and hanging.
The collages, objects and paintings are made in series. It involves many changes consistently and incrementally until the simple form appears. Every work is a process that shapes itself during its realization. A rejection of realism in favor of the mind. It's about looking for the essence of things. The process is a fundamental part of my work.
The panels and objects, consisting of the Mylar polyester (foil) and the polystyrene plate, are low in weight, but constructed in such a way that they can be exhibited as an installation. The presentation is always a reformulated challenge of hanging, stacking or laying down, stripped of a frame with an open structure in interaction with the space.
The works are what they are and the viewer observes.

After completing my Master Education Free Graphics and Drawings at the St. Lukas in Brussels, I specialized several years in the technique of intiglio, relief printing and lithography.
The technique with which I could best express myself became the drypoint etching.
As printing form I don't use the conventional zinc or copper, but instead I inventively made the Mylar polyester(foil) my base material.
Ultimately, the graphic arts are not a purpose, but rather a method to come to other insights.
During my classical art education I was triggered by the lessons about the Russian-avand garde, the Bauhaus and the Style.
Through the technique of the collage and drypoint etch, my work has evolved to geometric abstraction over the last couple of years.
The basic material with which I work is the Mylar polyester foil.
My recent work consists of reduced, monochrome painted lines and planes. These are applied to the reflective, transparent polyester foil with wide brush strokes in acrylic paint where only the power of the colored line or plane prevail. Basic principles such as the form, the color, the texture and the material are researched on a formalistic method.

Each is journey on thoughts and the same time a process that shapes itself during its realization.
A rejection of realism in favor of the spirit. It's about seeking the essence of things.
The process is a fundamental part of my work..
The panels and objects consisting of the foil and the polystyrene plate, low in weight, are originally two-dimensional, but are constructed so, that they can be exhibited as an installation.
The presentation is always a reformulated challenge of hanging, stacking or laying down, deprived of a frame, with an open structure in interaction with the space.
