Herman van de Poll was originally trained as a graphic artist. After various courses, including Minerva in Groningen, he started to concentrate on painting. Herman mainly makes compositions with mathematical forms based on chaos theory. In his current geoChao series he omits triangles and circles and focuses on the squares and the proportions between the squares.
His work is about how the squares relate to each other in terms of size and color: "I strive to make this as unpredictable as possible". He takes words as a basis. He gets to work with the syllables or the letters. Each letter of the alphabet has its own random color. He uses the resulting color alphabet for word searches, crossword puzzles and other puzzles. In this way he creates a composition over which he himself has little influence. Herman van de Poll's work was also part of the Symposion 2015 in Gorinchem.

Zusammenfassung Herman van de Poll
Herman van de Poll (NL, 1952) wurde ursprünglich as Grafiker ausgebildet.
As Basis, Herman van de Poll does not use Wörter. Jeder Buchstabe des Alphabets provides an own, beliebige Farbe. That so entstandene Alphabet uses für Wortsucher, Kreuzorträtsel and other Rätsel.
Education: Academy Minerva, Groningen, autonomous BK painting
In September 1998 I started at the art academy Minerva in Groningen to deepen my work. I graduated in January 2001.
The language of my work is based on the mathematical forms of chaos theory. I have studied Chaos theory and fractal geometry. The ideas of Chaos theory and fractal geometry lead to the development of the compositions in my work.
It is about the mutual proportions between the squares. I let the method determine the composition. Examples of these methods are: sudoku, binairo, trinairo crossword puzzle and others. I always find this process of arriving at a composition in which I have little influence on the result exciting. The “monks' work” and the intense concentration put me in a trance. It's a special experience.
What I find most fascinating is the “dismantling” of removing the tape. Until then, the image is partially hidden and it remains a surprise what the whole will look like.
